Music Composer Ismail Darbar made a grand debut in the world of music with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's (SLB's) Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam in 1999 and won the National Film Award for Best Music Direction. He later gave music in Abhishek Bachchan starrer Tera Jadoo Chal Gaya and SLB's Devdas. Ismail and SLB had a lot of creative differences. In an interview to Taran Adarsh some years ago, Ismail appeared a bit on the arrogant side taking credit for the entire composition of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, its title and all the songs. He stated that Sanjay wanted to change some songs but he felt that there were not changes required. Ismail Darbar has to understand that Snjay Leela Bhansali is a music composer himself and we have all appreciated his composition in Bajirao Mastani. No director would want to work with a composer who doesn't take his feedback. Therefore we didn't see SLB-Ismail Darbar working together post Devdas.

Ismail Darbar will be giving the background score for Omung Kumar's 'Bhoomi.' He had last given the music for Subhash Ghai's ‘Kaanchi’. ‘Bhoomi’ is an emotional and sensitive revenge drama that explores the relationship between a father and daughter. Bhoomi stars Sanjay Dutt and is scheduled to release on September 22, 2017.
