Inferno is a Hollywood Mystery Thriller film directed by Ron Howard and stars Tom Hanks, Felicity Jones, Omar Sy, Ben Foster, Sidse Babett Knudsen & Bollywood actor Irfan Khan.
Plot: When Robert Langdon (Tom Hanks) wakes up in an Italian hospital with amnesia, he teams up with Dr. Sienna Brooks (Felicity Jones), and together they must race across Europe against the clock to foil a deadly global plot.
Inferno does get going pretty quickly once it establishes the fact that Hanks is suffering from Amnesia within the first few minutes. Once Hanks and Jones are on the move, director Howard keeps his actors in pretty much constant motion in a race from one place to the next, running, driving, climbing or even crawling, except when they stop to tell us what's going on. The idea of all that running, as well as the film's fast editing, seems to be to keep us involved while discouraging us from spending too much time thinking about how silly the story is, or how paper-think some of the characters are. It actually works here as you will probably enjoy Inferno slightly more than the past two movies.
Inferno faces a great issue with its pacing, because sometimes there are scenes that don't seem like they are building to anything but once you are finally able to connect the dots, it is very gratifying.
Aside from some humour and beautiful settings, one of the film's saving graces is its cast, who are all obviously so much better than the material they're given to sell. Overall the movie makes a decent watch. Irfan Khan does a brilliant job playing a shady character who runs a private security firm. We wish there had been even more of him in the film! If you enjoyed the previous two movies of this director, you would certainly enjoy this one as well.
