Mohenjo Daro Movie Review

The story is so simplistic and feeble that the movie starts wobbling in the first few minutes and then you have approximately 150 more minutes to go. :(

Mohenjo Daro is a mess. It has ambition and scale and also the sincerity of Hrithik Roshan who has invested his soul in every scene but the cartoon like narrative proves too much for even his herculean shoulders.

Ashutosh Gowarikar started with a grand vision. A historical set in 2016 BC, essentially a mix of 300 and Bahubali. His vision deserves applause but the director has been utterly lead down by his own writing.

We are introduced to Sarman (Hrithik) who can kill a crocodile. Desperate to see the city Mohenja Daro, Sarman makes his way there. Sarman and Chani, the priest's daughter, make eyes at each other. Sarman saves Chaani from horses who are just rushing at her. Sarman jumps in between and shouts 'Shaant' and they listen. How amusing! Chaani is already booked (same gheesi peeti story). She has to marry the son of Mohenjo Daro's Pradhan (what an old formula) who keeps the town terrorized and subservient. Sarman isn't going to stand around watching this evil harm the town people. Sarman is identified as a trouble maker. Then the battle of Good vs Evil is interrupted by traditions like Milan Raat, a mass dating night during which the men have to declare love for the women they desire. Sarman participates in the event by disguising himself by putting just two white lines on his cheeks and red paint around his eyes and guess what? No one recognizes him. Ridiculous! The rest of the story is as bad.

A.R. Rahman's music is fantastic. Hrithik's acting is good. Pooja Hegde isn't too promising in the acting department. The sets look fake so does the crocodile and the flood scene with poor cgi/sfx special effects. Costume and make-up don't represent the city during that time.

Mohenjo Daro will disappoint you for sure. We go with 1 star for the movie.
