This is Tom Cruise's worst movie till date. If you expect this to be like Brendan Fraser's Mummy and Mummy Returns, then you will be royally disappointed.

For all of you who always wondered why Tom Cruise never won an Oscar, will get your answer by watching this movie. His acting is horrendous in this movie. Director Alex Kurtzman recently stated that he wasn't making the film for critics, but for the fans; how lame!

The Mummy stars Tom Cruise, Annabelle Wallis, Sofia Boutella, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance, Marwan Kenzari and Russell Crowe. It is a reboot of The Mummy franchise and the first installment in the Dark Universe film series.

The plot follows a treasure hunting soldier Nick Morton (Tom Cruise) and his buddy Chris (Jake Johnson) being caught in the middle of a battle in Iraq. Only to discover a hidden buried tomb underneath a small village. Brings the attention of the military and archaeologist Jenny (Annabelle Wallis) who wants to bring the tomb back to London to study it. Only to unravel the tomb of princess Ahmanet (Sofia Boutella) who was mummified after she murdered her father and his new newborn for being the next in the heir. She awakens to release evil in the world and wants to resurrect a god of death.

Though the movie is fast-paced, the acting and direction is third class. The only saving grave is Sofia Boutella. She nails the character of Princess Ahmunet, she is truly a goddess with of course an ancient course that she brought upon herself, but her character is so likable you actually end up rooting for the ultimate evil, Boutella brings a charisma to the mummy that it is hard to match.

Russell Crowe is totally wasted. Tom Cruise hams a lot and just can't act. The movie is more stupid than scary. The cast is surprisingly strong on paper but director Alex Kurtzman fails to utilize them in roles that best suit them.
