Lagaan, Raam Leela and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai would not have been the same had they not been rejected by these Bollywood actors.
Lagaan, Raam Leela and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai would not have been the same had they not been rejected by these Bollywood actors.

Here are the 10 Iconic Films turned down by Bollywood actors:

1. Lagaan: Lagaan was first offered to Shah Rukh Khan but he rejected the role and it then went to Aamir. Little did SRK know that the movie would go on to be nominated for the Oscars.

2. Kuch Kuch Hota Hai: Kajol wasn't the original choice of Karan Johar for Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. Karan had first approached Aishwarya Rai for the film, but she could not allot him dates and so the role went to Kajol. Interestingly, Twinkle Khanna was to play Rani Mukherjee's part, but she also opted out of it.

Kuch Kuch Hota Hai was rejected not only by Twinkle Khanna and Aishwarya Rai, but also by Raveena Tandon and Karishma Kapoor. Did you know that Saif Ali Khan was to do the role of Aman (played by Salman), but Saif wasn’t keen on playing second fiddle to SRK.

3. Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani:  After watching the movie, we all felt that Deepika Padukone did a splendid job. We felt as if the role was specially written for her; but did you know that she wasn't the original choice for this movie? The movie was first offered to Katrina Kaif. She turned down the role probably because she didn't want to feature opposite Ranbir Kapoor.

4. Veer Zaara: Veer Zaara was Yash Chopra's second last movie and perhaps the last movie with amazing music. Yash Chopra had first approached Kajol for the role of Zaara, but Kajol turned it down and the role went to Preity Zinta.

5. Raja Hindustani:  Did you know that Karishma Kapoor wasn't even the second choice for this role? The role was first offered to Aishwarya Rai, but she was busy performing her duties as Miss World 1994 and her reign last for a year. She couldn't take time out for the shooting of Raja Hindustani (Released in 1996) and therefore she turned down the offer and decided to focus on performing her duties as a responsible Miss World. Dharmesh Darshan, the director of Raja Hindustani, then approached Juhi Chawla for the role, but she also turned down the offer and the role then went to Karishma Kapoor and the rest is history.

6. Baazigar: "Haar kar jeetne wale ko Baazigar Kehte Hai" - SRK kept saying this in the movie and became a massive star post the release of Baazigar.  The role was first offered to Salman Khan, but he rejected the negative role. His loss was SRK's gain.

7. Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam:  Sanjay Leela Bhansali had approached Kareena Kapoor for the main female lead, but she rejected the offer for reasons best known to her. SLB then offered the role to Aishwarya Rai, who gladly accepted the offer and the rest is history.

8. Kal Ho Na Ho:  The role of bubbly 'Naina' was first offered to Kareena Kapoor. She quoted an exorbitant price which Karan couldn't accept. Kareena's refusal turned things sour between her and KJo. The film was later offered to Preity Zinta, who still considers Kal Ho Na Ho as her best film ever. Karan Johar and Kareena bridged their differences on Karan's chat show, Koffee With Karan.

9. Ram Leela: Kareena has made several blunders in choosing movies. Goliyon Ki Raasleela: Ram-Leela is perhaps the biggest mistake of Kareena's career.  The actress credits her mood swings as the reason for not doing the film. Post Kareena turning down the role, it went to Katrina and even she turned it down. SLB then approached Deepika Padukone for the role. Deepika won many awards for her epic portrayal of Leela in the film.

10. The Dirty Picture: Vidya Balan wasn't the first choice for The Dirty Picture. The role was first offered to Kangana Ranaut who for some reason rejected the offer.  Made a mistake Kangana, did you?
