Anaarkali (Swara Bhaskar) plays an orchestra singer in 'Anaarkali Of Aarah' who makes the crowd go crazy with her act. She is not ashamed of her sexuality and even admits that she is no 'Sati Savitri'. One of her fans, Chauhan, played by Sanjay Mishra, who happens to be the Vice Chancellor of a prestigious university ends up molesting her in an inebriated state in front of the audience during a show. Enraged by this humiliation, Anaarkali slaps him in public view and insists on filing a police FIR against him. Chauhan turns the table over her and uses his powers to get her arrested in a flesh trade case. He even sends his men behind her. Anarkali, who is on a run lands up in Delhi escaping from the bad guys and makes a fresh start there and live up her dreams to return back to Aarah to fight for her dignity and teach Chauhan and his men a lesson. The rest of the film revolves around this plot.

Debutante director Avinash Das needs to be applauded for brilliantly handling a sensitive subject. Though the movie is filled with profane language and vulgarity, it doesn't come across as cheap and unwatchable thanks to the skillful treatment given to the film by Avinash Das. What could have been better was the pace of the movie. Some scenes are dragged and makes the movie lose its steam in certain portions. Swara Bhaskar's outstanding acting makes this film a worth watch. . It isn't easy to portray a character that's bold and at the same time equally vulnerable. but Swara does complete justice to her role and leaves a lasting impression. The movie may not become a box-office sensation but it for sure will be lauded in all the award ceremonies of 2017. We rate it 4/5.
