Golmaal Again Movie Review: A Scary Laugh Riot

Directed by Rohit Shetty, Golmaal Again is the fourth installment of the Golmaal film franchise and stars Ajay Devgn, Tabu, Arshad Warsi, Tushar Kapoor, Shreyas Talpade, Kunal Khemu, Prakash Raj, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Nana Patekar, Johnny Lever, Mukesh Tiwari, Sanjay Mishra and Parineeti Chopra.

Gopal (Ajay Devgn), Madhav (Arshad Warsi), Lucky (Tusshar Kapoor), Laxman Prasad (Shreyas Talpade), Laxman (Kunal Khemu) and Khushi (Parineeti) spend their childhood at Jamunadas Anaath Ashram, but are separated (in groups) at a young age. Khushi is adopted by a family, but remains closely knit to Jamunadas who runs an orphanage. Then there is Anna (Tabu), a librarian gifted with a supernatural power of communicating with ghosts. Fast forward 25 years, and the kids are all grown up with Gopal suffering from phasmophobia and Laxman, Lucky and Madhav using his fear of ghosts to scare the hell out of him. Everything goes fine till they get the news of Jamunadas' demise from the funny spelling bee 'Sanjay Mishra'. They all go to Ooty and find out that Khushi and Jamunadas were murdered and they must take revenge to bring the bad guys (Neil Nitin Mukesh and Prakash Raj) to justice so that Khushi's aatma can attain Mukti. What happens next is full-on illogical, yet extremely funny Bollywood ghostly revenge - Rohit Shetty style.

Johnny Liver's Bhoola act will leave you in splits, especially when he gets into the Bahubali mode and addresses Tabu as Sivagami Devi. His Bhula act that converts Friday the 13th mourning day of Jamunadas' death to a birthday celebration party is another great scene. If there is one person with exceptionally brilliant comic timing in the movie, then it has to be Johnny Liver. He proves us all why he is called the King of Comedy in Bollywood.

Rohit Shetty's direction may be illogical, but is extremely entertaining. Ajay Devgn is impressive in his Ungli-tod act and a lot of action scenes remind us of Chennai Express for they all have a trendy Tamil music playing in the background. You just can't stop yourself from laughing every time the spelling genius Sanjay Mishra appears on screen. Arshad Warsi, Tushar Kapoor and Kunal Khemu are just about mediocre in their acts. Shreyas Talpade's comic timing is far superior than the others. Tabu is brilliant as usual. Vrajesh Hirjee's snake charmer act is quite refreshing. Prakash Raj reminds us of his Singham antics and he is amazing to watch again.

One person who steals the limelight is Nana Patekar, every time the ghost (Parineeeti) gets into someone's body, that person starts talking like Nana Patekar. Nana Patekar even makes a blink-and-miss appearance in the movie.

We would have given 5 stars to Golmaal Again had it not been for Parineeti Chopra and Neil Nitin Mukesh's extremely poor acting and the unnecessary inclusion of songs in the movie. Those three negative point apart, Golmaal Again is a laugh riot. Bollywood couldn't have asked for a better Diwali gift as this movie is likely to create many box-office records. Golmaal Again is a must watch for all comedy lovers. It refrains from any sort of vulgarity and therefore comes out as a completely family entertainer.
