AR Rahman, who achieved a different identity in the world of music has become 52 years old today. In 1992, he debuted in Bollywood with the movie 'Rosa'. After its success, AR Rahman never looked back.
AR Rahman was born on January 6, 1966, in a Hindu family in Chennai. At that time he was named AS Dilip Kumar. Later he changed his religion and renamed as AR Rehman. There is a little story behind it.
Once, his younger sister had fallen sick that their father disillusioned for her survival. But for her wellbeing, Rehman asked for blessings in a mosque and soon her sister miraculously became completely healthy. Impressed by this, Rahman started following Islam.
AR Rahman inherited music from his father. His father RK Shekhar used to work in Malayalam film industry. At the age of 9, his father died and the financial condition of his home
had become very bad.
Rahman started working at the age of 11. While working in a band group, he received a scholarship from Trinity College of Music, London. He learnt western classical music and later earned a degree as well.
AR Rahman has spread his magic of music not only in India but also abroad. He even won Oscar for music in the film Slumdog Millionaire including many other awards such as Rami, Bafta and Golden Globe.
